General Description

A Psalter, Collectar and Hymnal from Ely (embodies a secular use), written in 2 cols, with 31 lines per page. The Psalter has the English Prayer Book numbering. The polyphony is an addition at the foot of f. 133v on 3 brown staves of 4, 3 and 4 lines. On f. 132v are three 15th century hymns in honour of St. Richard of Chichester. In the 15th century the MS was at Chichester.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A parchment Psalter, Collectar and Hymnal of the first half of the 13th century meas. 286 x 200 mm. and containing ii + 151 folios. The ms is from Ely and embodies a secular use. It is written in 2 cols, with 31 lines per page. The square notation is on staves of 4 or 5 red lines, and in the Hymnal there are 12 staves per column. The Psalter has the English Prayer Book numbering. In the 15th century the ms was at Chichester. The foliation is a modern pencil one at t.r.r. There are 2 flyleaves at the front and 2 at the back as follows: f. i: a paper leaf belonging to the binding; f. ii: a parchment stub; f. 150: a blank parchment leaf; f. 151: as f. i. The 17th century binding is of brown leather over pulp boards. There is blind tooling at the front and back and a gilt title "Laud K.59" on the spine. The polyphony is an addition in Ars Nova notation from c. 1300 at the foot of f. 133v on 3 brown staves of 4, 3 and 4 lines. On f. 132v are three 15th century hymns in honour of St. Richard of Chichester.
