RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: An early 15th century parchment manuscript meas. 192 x 123 mm. and containing vi+152+i folios. The first and last leaf belong to the 17th century brown leather binding with pulp boards. Flyleaves f. v, vi and 150 are Dominican letters of Confraternity ornamented with blue-red initials or, in the case of f. 150, with gold. Fol. v dated 1371 is from the vicar-general of the Order at Northampton. The main treatise takes up f. 1-149 and is a rebuttal of the 12 heresies of the Lollards. It is written in a typical monastic minuscule of the period with blue-red initials for sub-paragraphs and gold and violet at the beginning as well. The music page is the second of a bifolio, of which the stub remains. The page is much cut down. The first 3 pieces are in Ars Nova notation with semiminims and joined-up c.o.p. ligatures. They must date from c. 1400, while the piece in white notation may be slightly later.
