General Description

The MS corpus consists of Proper compositions arranged in complete masses (f. 1-155), Ordinary pieces (f. 155v-165), 90 sequences (f. 165-222), a few Gospel and Epistle Tro (f.222-231v), 33 cantiones (f. 232-246), 16 Benedicamus Tro (f. 247-251v), 19 Introit Tro (f. 251v-254v), 19 other Tro (f. 254v-261v) and 5 additions in later script. The script of both text and music is clear and precise throughout.

There are 4 polyphonic pieces, written in score, between ff.248v-256; they have barlines drawn thinly through both voices.

The three principal authors and donors of the MS were clerics who appear in the initial miniature, annotated 'scribebant'. Their names were Johannes de Perchausen, Otto de Wartenberch and Johannes de Geyrstal, and they belonged to the Augustinian foundation of Moosburg. The single copyist is named as "Ernestus scriptor de Landshuta".

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A 14th century large folio manuscript meas. 48 x 35 cm. and containing 264 folios. These are made up of 33 quaternios, and all the gatherings except the last one are numbered. There is an old Roman foliation up to 264 plus two flyleaves, one at each end. The recto of the front flyleaf bears a later, systematically ordered list of the mass pieces, and the recto of the rear flyleaf a Credo melody, also added later. The ms corpus consists of Proper compositions arranged in complete masses (f. 1-155), Ordinary pieces (f. 155v-165), 90 sequences (f. 165-222), a few Gospel and Epistle Tro (f.222-231v), 33 cantiones (f. 232-246), 16 Benedicamus Tro (f. 247-251v), 19 Introit Tro (f. 251v-254v), 19 other Tro (f. 254v-261v) and 5 additions in later script. For the music, which is in Gothic neumes of moderate thickness, 14 four-line staves are drawn per page. The script of both text and music is clear and precise throughout. The 4 polyphonic pieces written in score have the text in both voices, black in the first and red in the second voice. Barlines occur in these compositions, drawn thinly through both voices. As for the date of the codex, this can be estimated fairly exactly. The three principal scribes and donors of the ms were clerics who appear in the initial miniature. Their names were Johannes de Perchausen, Otto de Wartenberch and Johannes de Geyrstal, and they belonged to the Augustinian foundation of Moosburg. A note on f. 261v near the end of the ms gives the date 1360: Anno domini 1360 scriptus est iste liber per manum Ernesti scriptoris de Landshuta.
