General Description

A 14th century pen trial located on the recto side of the final folio of a 13th century manuscript containing Aristotle's Physics. The fragment consists of the complete tenor of the ballade En amer a douce vie (B41) from Le Remède de fortune (though lacking the first ending of the A section).

The lines of the lower stave are prefaced by pitch indications, and the leaf includes (apparently unrelated) texts in different hands. The prominent legible texts are 'Francorum Rex' and 'Robertus dei gratia francorum rex / universis presentes literas'. Possibly the scribe was referring here to Robert the Pious, (d. 1031) if this were copied from a cartulary.

Tenor concordance identified by Michael Cuthbert, 2023.
