General Description

Franciscan book (miscellany) containing predominantly Office of the Dead material belonging to the Franciscans of St. Bernardino of Siena. The book also contains other antiphons, psalms, responsories, and both the Proper and Ordinary of the Mass from various liturgical observances including Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, the Requiem Mass, and the Feasts of the Purification and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is also text-only material in this book: the seven penitential psalms, the Litany of the Saints, an Office of the Dead containing Vespers, Matins and Lauds, and five prayers for the dead. The polyphonic fragment is found on f. 43v (note: the manuscript is not foliated) following the doxologies, a two-part polyphonic hymn setting of the text ‘Lauda Sion Salvatorem’ – a text typically associated with the Feast of Corpus Christi
