General Description

Probably part of a roll, bound upside-down. 1 Bottom voice carries plainsong Paradisi porta (AS, pl. 252). 2 Fragment of top stave only; a large blank space has been left between 1 and this stave. 3 Largely illegible, but at least three voices. Written in England. Used as a wrapper for a rental for the year 1419/1420 and draft surveys, etc., for 1436/1437,1461,1467/1468 and 1473/1474, of the Augustinian Priory of St Peter at Thurgarton, Nottinghamshire (LR 2/261, fols. 1-49). The leaf may have been added at Thurgarton (s. xv?) or after 1538, when the rental and related documents passed to the Court of Augmentations at the surrender of the Priory; the title, 'Rentale de Thurgarton in comitatibus Nott. et Lincoln.', is added, s. xvi, on fol. ir. Transferred to the Office of the Auditors of Land Revenue in 1554.

RISM Supplement: 1 fol., probably part of a roll (trimmed; unfoliated, and bound upside-down). Parchment. Now 290 x 230 mm. Written space 200 mm wide. Ruling: twelve red five-line staves (14.25 mm) ruled with a rastrum (there is a space before the last stave on fol. iv, which begins a new piece); marginal pricking for text, and a ruled indentation (13 mm) for an initial on fol. iv (ninth stave ruled only to the end of the music). Script: gothica textualis quadrata with some semi-quadrata elements. Notation: unstemmed semibreves, with dot of division, used syllabically. Decoration: one-line and one-stave initial on fol. iv, now illegible, flourished in red; red flourishes under T.
