General Description

F. 35 appears to have been ruled in regular red lines, but a text has been inserted on every 5th line, leaving 4 blank lines above that imply music was to have been inserted. The ruling appears to have been done line-by-line rather than with a rastrum. Prickings are visible on the edge of the page. The text is 'Preciosa mellis stilla [sic] speciosa maris stella gloriosa regis cella sponsa dei et puella. ave plena gra. O sullimus genitura. inte via virgo pura. dulcis mat[er] egros (?) cura. in extrema die dura. a[...]rma cum sit transitura. ut ab Iuste (?) sit secura. esto prope domina.' Ff. 35v-36 is a Salve regina in neumes, one voice only, on five red lines with a C4 clef. The part appears to be complete F. 127v is in a different hand with two voice parts, one C4 on a five-line stave and the other C4 on four lines. The first text is 'Stella celi extirpant que lactavit dominu[m] mortis pertem q[ui] platavit...'. The other: 'O gloriosa stella maris a peste succ[u]re nobis…'. This is the second half of the 'Stella celi extirpavit' prayer (the first half of which is above this on the folio), which was set numerous times in England (for example by John Cooke in the Old Hall MS and William Hawte in the Ritson MS).
