Originally two separate volumes at least. A motet has been added on f. 164v-165, on what was doubtless a blank page, identical with the lower three voices of Montpellier 29v-37. RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 13th century parchment manuscript from the Abbey of Ramsey meas. 215 x 152 mm. and containing 167 folios, not including several blank pages in the course of the volume. In addition, there are four blank paper folios each end of the codex serving as flyleaves. The 18th century binding is typical of the Cotton manuscripts (see Cotton Fragment 29 above). The 17th or 18th century ink foliation at t.r.r. is not altogether correct and starts at f. 3 of the modern pencil foliation at t.r.r. A medieval foliation, starting "fo. primo" at f. 87 t.r.r. and continuing to f. 142, indicates that the codex was originally two separate volumes at least. The contents are listed f. 2-2v, and include a history of England by Henry of Huntingdon from the Norman invasion to the time of Henry II, Ailred of Rievaulx's history of king David of Scotland, various Papal bulls, a letter of king Henry III in the 48th year of his reign, etc. Music is added on f. 164v-165, on what was doubtless a blank page originally, in clear English mensural notation. There is constant alternation between longs and rhombs, and the longs are frequently surmounted by one or two dots. The double long has a line through the middle which protrudes vertically each side of the note. Notation and script are neat and typical of the period c. 1300. Red four or five-line staves are employed as follows: 1 five and 12 four-line staves on f. 164v, and 10 four and 2 five-line staves on f. 165. The one motet written down is identical with the lower three voices of Mo 15.

Reference to Mo changed using foliation to avoid confusion with variant numbering systems; concordances fixed in database so that they appear on the composition information.
