General Description

Cut from two or more folios. Written in England. Used in the spine of Royal MS 11 E. IX, pasted between the sewing bands to protect the backs of the quires, and recovered when this manuscript was rebound in 1977. Two strips from a biblical commentary, also removed from the spine of this book, are now fols. 71, 76. Placed in Add. 59846 ('Make-Up Volume', 1977) as part M in 1977; mounted in perspex and bound in 1991. Further strips from these and possibly other music leaves remain in Royal MSS 11 C. III, C. VI, C. X, E. I-V, E. VII, E. VIII and E. X. All of the strips in this group of bindings may have been cut from flyleaves discarded from the Royal manuscripts when they were re-bound shortly after 1757. Owned by the British Museum by 1757. Royal MS 11 E. IX was in the king's library by 1546 (see Lpro, E 315/160).
