General Description

Only ff. 2'-3', 4'-5, and 8' contain music; remainder contain miscellaneous notes and accounts of one John White, dated 12 Henry IV (= 1411). Music copied by a single scribe. Note by later owner ('Honest Tom Martin of Palgrave') claims manuscript was copied by Friar John Brackley of Norwich, friend and advisor to Paston family. However, neither the music hand nor two other scribal hands which appear in the manuscript match Brackley's script, preserved in London, British Library, MS Additional 34888 (GreC). Owned by the antiquarian Joseph Ritson, who presented it to British Museum.
