General Description

Two volumes of theological and historical collections in defence of Roman Catholicism, consisting of glosses on verses of the New Testament, extracts from theological works, and accounts of contemporary events concerning recusants, arranged alphabetically under 93 headings called books. Copied on one page is a 4-part setting of the text 'Haec est dies, domini gautiamus et laetemur in ea', ascribed to 'Byrd' (Morehen believes the attribution to be incorrect). Copied by Thomas Jollet (pseudonym), a Catholic convert, and a layman with Northamptonshire connections.
