Removed from the binding of MS 1089, a parchment Biblia pauperum of 9 folios with a modern, probably 19th century pencil foliation at t.r.r. in the Lyzeumsbibliothek in Konstanz. The third single leaf contains no music. Only the first two fragments fit together and form most of the upper and lower half of one folio. Script and notation of the music leaves are in greyish-brown ink. The original foliation shows that these pages were originally part of a sizeable manuscript very similar to CH-EN 314 and with one composition at least in common with it. The use of paper is a characteristic German feature. There may be more polyphony than is apparent at first sight, though the word 'Tenor' on f. 5v seems misleading: the Odor tuus does not seem to harmonise with the corresponding responsory Salve, nobilis above.

The music leaves, are at present in the wrong order. At present they are f. 1 (bifolio), f. 2-4 (3 single leaves), f. 5-6 (2+2 fragments). If the bifolio is numbered twice, the correct order is: f. 1-2 (old f. 1), f. 3-7 (old f. 3, 5,2,6,4). The bifolio bears the numbers xxxviii and xxxviiii, f. 3 was f. xxxxviiii, and f. 5 (old f. 2) f. lxiii. The non-musical page f. 7 appears to have been f. ci.
Foliation

RISM Description
RISM B/IV 2: A bifolio, 3 single leaves and 4 fragments of a mid-14th century South German manuscript which have been removed from the binding of ms 1089, a Biblia pauperum, in the Lyzeumsbibliothek in Konstanz. The ms is on permanent loan to the Rosgarten Museum. The third single leaf can be disregarded here, since it contains no music. It is necessary to renumber the music leaves, which at present are in the wrong order according to the photographs, as follows: f. 1 (bifolio), f. 2-4 (3 single leaves), f. 5-6 (2+2 fragments). If the bifolio is numbered twice, the correct order is: f. 1-2 (old f. 1), f. 3-7 (old f. 3, 5,2,6,4). The music folios meas. 200 x 175 mm. (single page of bifolio), 201 x 137 mm. (f. 3), 138 x 43 and 92 x 40 (new f. 4 - first two fragments), 198 x 150 mm. (new f. 5), 62 x 101 and 66 x 40 mm. (new f. 6 = last two fragments). The first two fragments only fit together and form most of the upper and lower half of one folio. Script and notation of the music leaves are in greyish-brown ink, except that f. lv and 3v have red initials. An old ink foliation at t.m.r. shows that these pages were originally part of a sizeable manuscript very similar to CH-EN 314 and with one composition at least in common with it. The bifolio bears the numbers xxxviii and xxxviiii, f. 3 was f. xxxxviiii, and f. 5 (old f. 2) f. lxiii. The non-musical page f. 7 appears to have been f. ci. For the music, typically 14th century Gothic neumes on six five-line staves per page are used; another characteristic German feature is the use of paper for these leaves. There may be more polyphony than is apparent at first sight, though the word "Tenor" on f. 5v seems misleading, for the Odor tuus does not seem to harmonise with the corresponding responsory Salve, nobilis above. The original Biblia pauperum is a parchment ms of 9 folios with a modern, probably 19th century pencil foliation at t.r.r. The beechwood binding with stamped parchment spine measures 332 x 258 mm. and is probably original.
