General Description

The main contents are extents and rentals of various manors or townships belonging to Selby Abbey in Yorkshire. At the end are 2 charters. The music is a two-part Gloria (there are no notes for the Amen). Bought for the British Museum on February 12th, 1901 from B. Quaritch.

brown morocco binding with black corners; probably 1901. There is a gilt title on the spine: 'RENTALS || OF || SELBY || ABBEY || 1320-1'. Two blank unnumbered paper flyleaves at the front and 14 at the back go with the binding.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2 A 14th century vellum manuscript meas. 290 x 197 mm. and containing 29 folios. The foliation is a modern pencil one at t.r.r. The main contents of the codex are extents and rentals of various manors or townships belonging to Selby Abbey in Yorkshire. At the end are 2 charters. The music is a two-part Gloria in Ars Nova notation on 12 brown five-line staves in 6 accolades (there are no notes for the Amen). The page in question meas. 290 x 205 mm. and is made of parchment. The manuscript was bought for the British Museum on February 12th, 1901 from B. Quaritch, and it is from this time that the brown morocco binding with black corners may be dated. There is a gilt title on the spine: "RENTALS || OF || SELBY || ABBEY || 1320-1", while 2 blank unnumbered paper flyleaves at the front and 14 at the back go with the binding.
