General Description

A Bassus partbook from a set of five volumes. Each book consists of the print RISM D3521; the Tenor Bassus and Quintus books (only?) have manuscript additions, copied by several scribes. Copying begun at the Fürstenschule St. Afra in Meissen, under the direction of Wolfgang Figulus. Following Figulus' death (after 1588), the manuscript went to his son-in-law, Friedrich Birck, cantor at the Fürstenschule St. Augustin in Grimma from 1591 until his death in 1621. After Birck's death, his widow sold the manuscript to the Grimma Fürstenschule; in 1890 it was deposited at the library in Dresden.

5 paper partbooks, each consisting of the print RISM D3521, with manuscript additions in books 3-5 (T-36 folios, B-30, Q-33), ca. 165 x 200. New pencil foliation; original numbering of pieces in Q, 1-11. Books 1-2 have original brown tooled leather covers, in poor condition; books 3-5 have modern brown cardboard covers, and have been restored. Copied by several scribes.

1575-ca. 1640 (SteudeMS); dates 1575 and 1581 in manuscript. Copying begun at the Fürstenschule St. Afra in Meissen, under the direction of Wolfgang Figulus. Following Figulus' death (after 1588), the manuscript went to his son-in-law, Friedrich Birck, cantor at the Fürstenschule St. Augustin in Grimma from 1591 until his death in 1621.
