General Description

An Altus partbook from a set of four volumes. Copied by two scribes (#3-53 and #54-88, respectively); second scribe probably Jacob Hagenbach (see below), who also wrote most of BasU F.IX.59-62 and manuscript additions in BasU F.IX.63 and BasU kk.IV. 19-22 (KmetzH). First layer probably of south German or Austrian origin; second layer copied in Basel (KmetzH). Owned (and partly compiled) by Jacob Hagenbach (1533-ca. 1566), a Basel goldsmith. Later passed to Hagenbach's grandson, Johann Jakob Hagenbach. Acquired by present library from latter's estate in 1649.
