General Description

A Discantus partbook from a set of three volumes, each of which consists of the print RISM U119, with manuscript additions preceding and following the print. Copied by several scribes; scribal concordances with some other WrocU manuscripts. Copied in Brieg (= Brzeg). Formerly owned by Brieg Gymnasial-Bibliothek; transferred to present location in 1890.

Kuhn's catalogue numbers the print as 4. 3 ms pieces are copied at the beginning (1-3); the remainder after the print (5-54). Nos 7-30 are a complete copy of Scandello's "El primo libro de le canzoni napoletane a 4 voci"(Nuremberg 1566/1572/1583).

3 paper partbooks, each consisting of the print RISM U119, with manuscript additions preceding and following the print (D-48 folios, T-50, B-46), 148 x 201. (Preceding count of folios includes only manuscript additions). Many folios in T book now fragmentary and in very poor condition, apparently due to water or fire damage; folios later repaired and covered with transparent protective material. Sporadic new pencil foliation in some books. Rebound in modern covers of black cardboard; each book has modern paper flyleaf at front and back. Original parchment covers cut from non-musical manuscript now bound in as second flyleaf at front and penultimate flyleaf at back of each book. No index. Copied by several scribes; scribal concordances with some other WrocU manuscripts described in this catalogue. Staff height 10-17 (variable). A few inked initials, mostly in calligraphic style. Watermark is Briquet #962; same mark also appears in WrocU 28 and WrocU 53.

Last quarter of 16th century. Copied in Brieg (= Brzeg). Formerly owned by Brieg Gymnasial-Bibliothek; transferred to present location in 1890.
