General Description

A Discantus partbook, bound in with incomplete exemplars of the prints RISM J673 and 1514/1. The first four manuscript folios are inserted between the prints; the remaining 16 folios (14 with music) follow the second print.

Copied by one main scribe and two or three additional scribes. The book is unusual (for a madrigal collection) in attributing virtually all the pieces (Fenlon/Haar). Probably copied in northern Italy. Ownership inscription on first folio, 'Hieronymi Muti de pappazuris', now identified as Girolamo Muti Papazzuri, son of Prospero (who died in 1536).

Shelfmark 3314 (olim 1079) (1-2) are the prints; the manuscript additions are shelfmarked 3314 (3)
