General Description

A Quintus partbook from a set of five volumes. Compositions grouped in several sections by voice number: I (32 pieces a2 (A-Q books) & a3 (C-T-B books), with 3 pieces a5); II (28 pieces a4); III (36 pieces a5); IV (46 pieces a5); V (17 pieces mostly a6); VI (21 pieces a6).

Copied by one main scribe, with additions by several later hands. Copied in England. Owned by Filmer family, of Kent; purchased by Yale University in 1945.

Incomplete original index on rear flyleaf of A book groups pieces by genre and number of voices ("mottet of 5 pts," "madrigali 5 pts," "mottet of 6 pts," etc.), with subgrouping under each section by order of appearance (pieces listed by folio number only). Copied by one main scribe, with additions by several later hands. Staff height 15. No initials or decoration.
