General Description

A Discantus partbook from a set of four volumes. Copied by Martin Besard, a pupil of Heinrich Glareanus (GeerV); Glareanus himself copied Preface in Tenor book, and added attributions and theoretical glosses. Most repertory copied from Petrucci prints; many concordances with SGallS 463. Copied in Basel, under direction of the humanist and theorist Heinrich Glareanus (1488-1563). Subsequent history same as for MunU 239.

In the Bassus book here are 2 versions of the 'Esto nobis' section, the second with a note beside it: "Ita emendavit hanc Basim D. Homerus Herpol Belga nostrae aetatis Symphoneta et Coryphicus. Nec eam Jusquini, sed alicuius alterius esse asseverat." ('The learned Homer Herpol emended this bass part, a Belgian composer and singer of our time. He stated that it [the first version] is not by Josquin but by some other composer.')
