General Description

The main scribe was probably Lucas Wagenrieder; Lassus and Knöfel pieces are later additions in a different hand. Copied in Munich. Probably commissioned by the Palatine count Ottheinrich (or by Wilhelm IV, Duke of Bavaria), in memory of Ottheinrich's wife Susanna (a sister to Wilhelm), who died in 1543. Manuscript included in 1544 inventory of music used by Ottheinrich's chapel at Neuburg (see HeidU 318). Later taken back to Munich; placed in Schatzkammer of ducal court library, whose holdings formed foundation of present Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
