General Description

Choirbook. Possibly copied by Pierre de Manchicourt, court composer for Philip II, King of Spain. Copied in Madrid, for use at the court of Philip II, King of Spain (1527-98). Listed as #78 in 1602 and 1620 inventories of Philip's books. Purchased in 1620 by Real Convento de las Senoras de la Encarnaçion in Madrid; acquired from the Encarnaçion by Benedictine monastery at Montserrat, probably during 1920's.

Original index on f. 1 lists all pieces except motet "Accessit ad Jesum" (ff. 61'-65), in order of appearance. Possibly copied by Pierre de Manchicourt, court composer for Philip II, King of Spain (inscription on f. 1: "Liber quatuor missarum / musicalium nee non aliquot / carminum ecclesiasticorum / A Petro de Manchicourt / regie cappelle magistro / conscriptus et compositus"). No initials or decoration. Watermark resembles Briquet #8090.
