General Description

Copied by Isaac Bertout, whose activity as a scribe at the court of King Philip II is documented in payment records; Bertout also copied MadN 2431 (MannsM). Ff. 26'-27, 67'-68, 112-113, 158'-159, and 191 blank except for later scribblings. Copied in Madrid, for use at the court of Philip II, King of Spain (1527-98). Listed as #26 in 1602 inventory of Philip's court library. Inscriptions indicate ownership in early 18th century by Real Convento de las Senoras de 1a Encarnaçion in Madrid. Acquired from the Encarnaçion by Benedictine mona-stery at Montserrat, probably during 1920's.

Original ink foliation, 6-12; 14-217 (ff. 1-5 and f. 13 now missing; ff. [218-224] are stubs only; "181" applied to two consecutive folios). Ff. 26'-27, 67'-68, 112-113, 158'-159, and 191 blank except for later scribblings; blank staves only on f. 190'. Original covers of brown leather over cardboard, with worn ornamental shield.
