General Description

Copied by Isaac Bertout, employed by King Felipe II (cf. also E-MO: Ms. 676). Until 1602 this MS was part of the Spanish royal court’s musical collections.

Clemens non Papa-3, Morales-2

192 paper folios, 531 x 402. New pencil foliation, 1-192. Original covers of brown paper over cardboard, tooled in gold with arms of King Philip II. No index. Copied by Isaac Bertout, whose activity as a scribe at the court of Philip II is documented in payment records; Bertout also copied MontsM 767 (MannsM). Black inked calligraphic initials; rubrics and some texts in red ink. No watermarks visible.

1584 (MannsM). Copied in Madrid, for use at the court of Philip II, King of Spain (1527-98). Listed as #27 in 1602 inventory of Philip's court library.
