RISM B/IV 1: A 12th century parchment ms meas. 299 x 187 mm. and consisting of 66 folios. There is a modern ink foliation at t.r.r., and an old foliation also at t.r.r. is present for f. 1-24. The main contents are Boethius' treatise on music in a standard minuscule of the period, complete with ornate diagrams in blue, gold and violet, and initials in blue and gold or violet and gold. The rubrics are in red, and there are many marginal notes and interlinear glosses. At the end of the main part of the ms are 12th century neumes for Quam pulcra es and Ave, regina celorum, ave, domina on a four-line stave with 'a' and 'c'clefs. The next two pages, which are followed by a blank, unnumbered flyleaf the same size as the ms proper, are smaller than the rest, meas. 224 x 154 mm. They contain a series of 4 pairs of Pater... Seculorum Amen. Filius. Seculorum Amen, again in 12th century Aquitanian diastematic neumes, but on a single line in dry-point with 'c', 'a' and 'f clefs (the other lines may be invisible). There is more musical theory here too : Octo toni consistunt in musica. Musica motus est vocum. For the Tria iunctorum formula, alphabetical notation is used in red. On the next page there are neumes in red with initials of the same type as those in the body of the ms. The polyphony was added in a spare place in the Boethius treatise at the top of f. 63. It ends monodically, and begins :
