General Description

Four polyphonic pieces, copied by a single scribe, appear at end of treatises, on original ff. 58-61 [= new ff. 57-60]. Of German origin; once owned by Benedictine monastery of St. Maximin in Trier. Transferred to Trier Stadtbibliothek in early 19th century; later in the possession of the Benedictine scholar Anselm Schubiger (1815-88), who transcribed several of the treatises for inclusion in Coussemaker's Scriptorum. Purchased by British Museum from the antiquarian bookseller Leo Liepmannssohn of Berlin, in 1892.

t + 62 + i paper folios, 198 x 145. Original ink foliation, 1-62 (f. 51 blank; f. 62 has blank staves only). Original foliation on ff. 52-61 crossed out and replaced by new pencil foliation, 51-60. Modern covers of maroon leather and cloth on cardboard. All examples in treatises monophonic, copied in Hufnagel or white mensural notation. Four polyphonic pieces, copied by a single scribe in white mensural notation, appear at end of treatises, on original ff. 58-61 [= new ff. 57-60]. Watermark resembles Briquet #8684.
