1 Mass, 2 Te Deums, 5 Canticles, 5 psalms, 20 hymns, 4 motets, 1 doxology, 3 laude = 41 (some of the pieces are duplicates)

Animuccia-1, Verdelot-1, anon-39

(BragardE erroneously attributes 23 of the anonymous pieces to Verdelot; see BökMPV, 239-42, who suggests that all 39 anonymous pieces may be by Animuccia).

ii + 128 paper folios, 420 x 280. Modern foliation, 1-60; non-original numbering of pieces; ink signatures to identify gatherings. Original covers of leather glued to pasteboard. Copied by a single scribe. Five watermarks; three listed by Briquet (#749, #4835, #6293) as Tuscan, 1511-66.

Ca. 1545 (VerdelotO); ca. 1560 or later (Rifkin). Copied in Florence.

Vol 4

1 Mass, 2 Te Deums, 5 canticles, 5 psalms, 20 hymns, * 14 motets, 1 doxology = 48

*Several hymns use essentially the same music, but with different texts.

G. Animuccia-1, (Corteccia)-6 + 11?, (A. Layolle?)-1,* (Rampollini)-1, Verdelot-1, anon-27**

*Canticle "Benedictus dominus deus Israel" on ff. 25'-33 also appears in PistAC 215, pp. 228-239, attributed to "dell'Aiolle musico: già." According to LayolleM, this probably refers to Alemano de Layolle, son of Francesco.

**BragardE attributes many of the anonymous pieces to Verdelot, but on untenable grounds; see discussion in BõkMPV, 239-43. BökMPV, in turn, suggests that all of the anonymous works may be by G. Animuccia. However, our identification of works by Corteccia, A. Layolle, and Rampollini in this source suggests that the attributions to G. Animuccia and Verdelot were intended to apply only to the specific pieces which bear them.

ii + 137 paper folios, 420 x 280. No original foliation. Original covers of leather glued to pasteboard. No index. Copied by a single scribe. Inked calligraphic initials. Watermarks: (1) flower? (not in Briquet); (2) resembles Briquet #749; (3) resembles Briquet #4835; (4) resembles Briquet #6293; (5) unidentified mark in circle surmounted by star.

Mid 16th century? Copied in Florence.
