A single Bassus partbook, over half of the contents of which are unica. Copied by a single scribe, except for original f. 71', copied by a different but contemporary hand, and ff. 1 and 53', which contain musical fragments in an 18th-century hand. A break in the main copying is evident at f. 26v (where the index stops).
Copied in northern Italy. Provenance unknown until owned by the historian Giuseppe Campori (1821-87) of Modena; bequeathed to Biblioteca Estense.

Gatherings are quaternions, but the 6th and 8th are incomplete, lacking 2 & 1 folios respectively. The losses are of text only; music remains complete.
Restored original covers of dark brown leather, tooled with ornamental designs and initials 'B.A.'
An indistinct watermark (anchor in circle with six-pointed star) is visible in some gatherings; no watermarks visible elsewhere

The earliest layer (ff. 1-26v) consists of repertory from the 1520s, and may slightly pre-date 1530; the second section was probably added not long after, c. 1530 (Fenlon/Haar).

Original ink foliation (in a different hand from the cpying), 1-71, on upper right rectos ('70' applied to two consecutive folios); new pencil foliation, 1-72, on lower left rectos.

Aux ff. 1 et 53v, quelques lignes de musique copiées postérieurement. Notation mesurée blanche. 4 portées par p. Au v. du f. de garde, table contemporaine du ms. jusqu'au f. 26 seul' (no 25). Reliure ancienne (dos refait) cuir brun, portant au plat supérieur: + B + + A + Partie de Bassus seul'.
Signalé d'abord par V. Cian dès 1884, puis par R. Vandini en 1886 dans l'Appendice à son catalogue de la bibliothèque du marquis Giuseppe Campori, ce ms. est entré à l'Estense par donation après la mort de son possesseur. Il contient 69 pièces, dont 64 sur texte italien profane, 3 motets et 2 chansons françaises. La copie a été effectuée par un seul scribe (sauf peut-être le no 69) vers 1530, à cette époque de transition entre frottola et madrigal, ce que confirme la préférence donnée à Verdelot avec 11 pièces ainsi que la présence des Festa.

I think the correct shelfmark is Ms. γ. L. 11.8 (resp., Ms. {gamma} L. 11.8), at least in RISM B IV/5 and in the Census-Catalogue, the signature is mentioned with the greek letter gamma. However, I could not check the manuscript itself or (digital) images.
