RISM Description
RISM
XVIe s.
[Translation] 16th-century, Paper, 179x240 mm. 3 books: Canto and Tenore, 12ff. Folios 11v and 12 are blank; Basso, 10ff. (missing f. 11) + 1 parchment folio glued to the inside of the cover and bearing a part of an Altus without words copied in the early sixteenth century. Modern foliation at the foot of the folios. White mensural notation. 4 staves per page. (Provenance Med. Palatina).
Even if the ms. was copied in the 2nd half of the sixteenth century, its repertoire of Canzoni a ballo on popular themes for which there are no concordances, originates in fact in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century. In this capacity it is mentioned by C. Gallico in the sources of Italian music from 1440 to 1531 (RIM I, 92)
