General Description

A fragment of a large manuscript Missal, copied in Iceland by Jón Þorlaksson of the Benedictine monastery Munkaþverá. In 1715 it was in the collection of Þorsteinn Sigurðsson in Copenhagen. It contains a troped Agnus and the incomplete end of a Credo, in two voices. in score. The upper part of the Credo is written over a dedicatory text in red ink (Translation: 'Jón Þorláksson has written this book. But Bjarni, son of Squire Ivar Holm has had to make it. And he gave it to the Virgin Mary of MunkaÞverá on the condition that it would be the wages which would allow him to join Mary in the next world ... 1473. ').

Dieses Fragment aus einer offenbar größeren, 1473 von Jón Þorlaksson in Island geschriebenen Missale-Handschrift des Benediktinerklosters Munkaþverá gehörte 1715 torsteinn Sigurđsson in Kopenhagen. Es enthält in Partiturnotation den Schluß eines tropierten Agnus und ein am Ende unvollständiges Credo zu zwei Stimmen. Der Oberstimme des Credo ist mit roter Tinte ein Widmungstext unterlegt (Übersetzung): „Jón Þorláksson hat dieses Buch geschrieben. Aber Bjarni, der Sohn des Junkers Ivar Holm, hat es machen lassen. Und er gab es der Jungfrau Maria auf MunkaÞverá unter der Bedingung, dass er den Lohn, welchen Maria ihm dafür gönnen wolle, in der andern Welt haben würde...1473."
