General Description

Polyphony on f. Cxiiii (copied in chant notation); polyphony on ff. 147'-148, 149'-150', 151'-153, 157, 158'-159, 164, and 174'-175' copied in black mensural notation (red notes indicate upper voice in seven à2 pieces notated on a single staff). Main corpus copied by Frater Přibík, active as scribe and cellarer at Cistercian monastery in Vyšší Brod (RotheHL); slightly later additions by several other scribes, including one who copied most of the polyphony. Copied at Cistercian monastery in Vyšší Brod (= Hohenfurth).

RISM BIV/3: 15. Jh.; 183 Blätter Papier, 213 x 150 mm. Moderne Foliierung von f. a-g (Blatt 1-7), originale Foliierung ab Blatt 8 von f. I-CXLIIII, moderne Foliierung von f. 145-176. Je Seite meist 6 rote Fünfliniensysteme, ab f. 145 schwarze Fünfliniensysteme; f. 1-143 frühböhmische Choralnotation, ab f. 144 meist schwarze (bei mehrstimmigen Stücken zum Teil schwarz-rote) Mensuralnotation - Einband: 15. Jh.; mit dunkelbraunem Leder überzogene Holzdeckel.

Diese sicherlich aus dem Kloster Vyšší Brod stammende Handschrift besteht aus 2 Teilen: 1. bis f. 144: Prozessionsgesänge und Graduale; 2. ab f. 145: Kantionen unter anderem Sie wurde im Jahre 1410 geschrieben: „Iste libellus est comparatus per fratrem Przybiconem, Monachum et sacerdotem professum in monasterio Altovadensi (Hohenfurt), ordinis Cisterciensis diocesis Pragensis … et est scriptus et notatus totaliter consummatus in anno domini MCCCCX in quo continetur diversus cantus secundum morem secularem …“. Außer den im Incipitverzeichnis angeführten mehrstimmigen Stücken waren offenbar noch andere in mehrstimmem Satz geplant, da zum Teil Raum für eine zweite Stimme leergelassen ist (so zum Beispiel auf f. 153v: Jam adest dies).

Monophony copied mostly in Bohemian chant notation on red staves, with occasional black mensural notation. Polyphony on f. Cxiiii copied in chant notation; polyphony on ff. 147'-148, 149'-150', 151'-153, 157, 158'-159, 164, and 174'-175' copied in black mensural notation (red notes indicate upper voice in seven à2 pieces notated on a single staff). Main corpus copied by Frater Přibík, active as scribe and cellarer at Cistercian monastery in Vyšší Brod (RotheHL); slightly later additions by several other scribes, including one who copied most of the polyphony. Inked Gothic initials in red, black, and blue; a few initials decorated with floral tracery extending into margins.
