General Description

A copy of a cantionale from c. 1420, originating in Jistebnice (RISM). Polyphony on pp. 65-66, 88, 94-95, 99a, 164, 215, 222-225, 240-241, 244-246, copied by several scribes. Perhaps copied in Prague. Given to Národní Muzeum in 1874.

RISM Description

RISM BIV/3: 15. Jh.; 123 + 1 Vorsatzblatt, Papier, sowie je ein modernes Vorsatz- und Nachstoßblatt, 310 x 220 mm. 1-8 rote oder schwarze Vier- und Fünfliniensysteme mit böhmischer Choralnotation (zum Teil mit mensuralen Elementen) und schwarze Mensuralnotation (mehrstimmige Stücke). - Einband: modernes Leder.

Diese vielleicht aus Prag stammende, für die Geschichte des hussitischen Gesanges wichtigste Handschrift ist eine Abschrift aus der Mitte des 15. Jh. des um 1420 geschriebenen sog. urhussitischen Kantionals von Jistebnice. Sie wurde 1874 von Pfarrer Schullera dem Nationalmuseum geschenkt.

Inhalt: Die Handschrift enthält die wichtigsten Gesänge und Dokumente der radikal hussitischen Liturgie (unter anderem auch Lieder von Jan Hus und Jan Čapek). Die Texte sind meist tschechisch.

Modern pagination, 1-246 (numbers appear only on rectos; one fragmentary folio between pp. 98/99 numbered "99a"). Rebound in modern leather covers. Monophonic contents in Bohemian chant notation; polyphony on pp. 65-66, 88, 94-95, 99a, 164, 215, 222-225, 240-241, 244-246, copied in black mensural notation by several scribes. Some miniatures and floral borders; decorative initials in various styles.

Mid 15th century (RISM). Perhaps copied in Prague; present manuscript is copy of cantionale from ca. 1420, originating in Jistebnice (RISM). Given to Národní Muzeum in 1874.
