General Description

The first folios contain a didactic poem in Latin concerning the eight modes and various pieces of plainsong illustrating the modes; the polyphonic pieces are found on ff. 5'-8. The manuscript was formerly in the Archivio Notarile and was discovered by Reinhard Strohm of Munich. Probably copied in Naples or vicinity (AtlF). Presumably owned in 16th century by 'Niccolaum Petruchielle,' named on f. [8'].

XVe s. 88ff. Parchemin, 205X150 mm. Foliotation moderne. Notation mesurée blanche. 5 portées par p.

Ces 8ff. de parchemin proviennent de l'Archivio notarile. Aux 5 premiers, figure un poème didactique en latin concernant les modes, suivi de quelques exemples de plainchant sur les 8 modes. Les 5 pièces polyphoniques copiées à partir du f. 5v ont toutes les caractéristiques de la f rottola de la fin du XVe s., précédant les éditions de Petrucci du début du siècle suivant, et les concordan-ces s'établissent avec des mss. de la même époque: n° 3 = MOe F.9.9., n° 43; n° 5 = PEc 431, n° 67.
