(Sermisy)-1, anon-2
2 fragmentary paper folios, 190 x 175 and 150 x 100, respectively, recovered from front and back covers of rent book (see below). Fragments apparently not from same original manuscript. Modern numbering of fragments, 5-6. Music appears only on rectos; versos blank, or have blank staves only. Each fragment copied by a different scribe; one scribe possibly Christofle Masson, singer at Church of St. George, Nancy. Staff height ca. 15 on #5, 13 on #6. No initials or decoration. No watermarks visible.
Ca. 1530-4. Probably copied in Nancy. Fragments with music later used to reinforce tooled leather covers of rent book of Church of St. George at ducal palace in Nancy. Music discovered by Richard Freedman in 1984; fragments subsequently removed from rent book and numbered as items #5-6 in packet of leaves recovered from rent book binding.
