RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: An 11th century parchment manuscript from Fleury meas. 274 x 195 mm. and containing 102 folios + 1 paper folio at the end and two (f. I-II) at the beginning. The two at the front contain writing while the end folio is blank and unnumbered. The modern foliation is printed at b.r.r. while the 18th century foliation at t.r.r. in brown ink is superseded. The plain parchment binding may also date from the 18th century. The main parts of the codex employ red and green initials. The contents are: the works of Andrea, prior of Fleury (f. 6-77v), a rhymed office of St. Peter (f. 78-79) and a glossed version of Boethius' Liber de Trinitate (f. 79v-101v). The initials are not coloured in this part of the ms. The organa appear for 3 pieces from the office of St. Peter. As in other mss of the period, the organal voices follow the plainsong as an independent section. The plainsong is written in elegant French neumes typical of North and Central France at the end of the 11th century, while the organal voices employ a more Aquitanian type of notation. All are staffless. Unfortunately, although the texts are present for 9 organa, only 3 have been notated.
