General Description

The MS corpus is an incomplete Latin breviary with music, which must come from a Carmelite monastery, since the additions to the calendar at the beginning are mainly concerned with saints who had been Carmelites. f. A and B at the front consist of a charter in Latin dating from the 15th century and concerned with the vicomté of Turenne. The polyphonic hymn on p. 226 is a variant of APT 16 bis 24 and certainly 14th century, but the corpus with its large script might be even earlier. The monodies following Iste confessor on p. 227-229 look like two-part motets owing to their melismatic endings, but they are in fact only for one-line performance.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A 14th century parchment manuscript meas. 289 x 205 mm. and containing 294 pages plus f. A and B at the front. There is no old foliation, only an 18th century ink pagination at t.r.r. There are no modern flyleaves. The two at the front consist of a charter in Latin dating from the 15th century and concerned with the vicomté of Turenne. The ms corpus is an incomplete Latin breviary with music, which must come from a Carmelite monastery, since the additions to the calendar at the beginning are mainly concerned with saints who had been Carmelites. The polyphonic hymn on p. 226 is a variant of APT 16 bis 24 and certainly 14th century, but the corpus with its large script might be even earlier. The initials are generally blue-red and vice versa. The polyphony is all in black ink and employs semibreves and minims in Ars Nova style. As for the binding, this is of white pigskin over wooden boards. The monodies following Iste confessor on p. 227-229 look like two-part motets owing to their melismatic endings, but they are in fact only for one-line performance.
