RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A late 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 335 x 228 mm. and containing 91 folios + 2 blank unnumbered folios at the front and one folio numbered in 19th century ink at the end. The foliation is at t.r.r., and the binding of skin over wooden boards. The contents are a Psalter with prayers at the end (f. 7-51v), a Hymnary (f. 52-63v), and a Proser (f. 64-91v) which includes 4 polyphonic pieces also appearing in I-As. The Gothic script employs the red-blue or blue-red initials typical of Northern France at this period. The notation is of square plainsong type on red four-line staves (16 per page in the Proser). The polyphony is at the end. The use of the semibreve note-form for a descending note on the first page of the Proser is worthy of mention, if only because it shows the Eastern French origin of the codex. On f. 1-6v a 14th century calendar reveals that the ms was already at Cambrai in those days.
