General Description

Part of a New Testament in small writing in 2 columns. The reference biblioteca mon[ast]erii S. Vedasti atrebaten[sis] 1628. A appears at the top of f. 2, and at the bottom of the page is Jhesus. Iste liber est monasterii sancti Anthonii celestinorum de ambianis in a medieval hand. Music appears on the final flyleaf (f. 39, though this is unnumbered). The verso was previously stuck to the back cover, but can now be seen. It is not easy, but apparently the two pieces are a two-voice Virelai and a three-part Ballade with text in the Cantus only. The notation is written in 2 columns for the upper voices on the recto, with the T running straight across the page.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A 13th century vellum manuscript meas. 245 x 170 mm. and containing 38 folios + 1 parchment flyleaf at each end. The corpus is part of a New Testament in small writing in 2 cols. The reference biblioteca mon[ast]erii S. Vedasti atrebaten[sis] 1628. A appears on f. 2 at the top, while at the bottom of the page is Jhesus. Iste liber est monasterii sancti Anthonii celestinorum de ambianis in a medieval hand. Actually f. 1 is also an added flyleaf, so that the present 19th century foliation in fine brown ink at t.r.r. should begin with the present f. 2 as f. 1. The parchment binding bears the following on the cover: Novum testamentum 1657 pertinet celestinis. The letter 'A' on the spine is doubtless a shelf letter. The music appears on the final flyleaf, which is not numbered but may be called f. 39. The verso was previously stuck to the back cover, but can now be seen. The Ars Nova notation of c. 1360 or so is written in 2 cols, for the upper voices on the recto, with the T running straight across the page. There are now 11 five-line staves to the page, the verso having all staves running straight across the page. It is not easy to read or determine the contents of f. 39 v, but apparently the two pieces are a two-voice Virelai and a three-part Ballade with text in the Cantus only.
