General Description

An early 14th century parchment manuscript, a Pontificale from Monte Cassino, where it had the number 634, according to the 15th century note at the foot of f. 1. The only polyphony is in Ars Nova notation, probably from the first half of the 14th century.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: An early 14th century parchment manuscript meas. 245 x 164 mm. and containing 79 folios numbered in 20th century pencil at t.r.r.+3 blank unnumbered original parchment folios at each end, and 2 unnumbered paper flyleaves at the front and one at the back. The ms is a Pontificale from Monte Cassino, where it had the number 634, according to the 15th century note at the foot of f. 1. The music is in typical 13th century square notation on 7 red five-line staves per page from f. 51-72 for the Corpus Christi office, Nativity Prefaces, and Ites and Benedicamus dominos. The script is French Gothic with initials in blue, red or both. Miniatures are colored gold and red. The binding is of parchment over stiff, probably pulp boards. The spine bears the papal arms in gilt together with the ms number. The only polyphony is in Ars Nova notation, probably from the first half of the 14th century.
