General Description

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 14th century parchment manuscript meas. 333 x 225 mm. and containing 152 folios + 2 modern unnumbered paper flyleaves each end. The contents are the Martyrology of Usuardus, the Rule of St. Benedict, readings from the Gospels for the whole year, a necrology and a book of proses for the B.V.M. Many pages are unfortunately mutilated. The foliation is a modern ink one at t.r.r. The Gothic script employs red initials, blue as well where there is music, which is generally on 9 red four-line staves per page. The measured notation clumsily differentiates between longs, breves and c.o.p. ligatures. Only the two-part Amens are polyphonic. The fairly modern binding is of red half-leather, with mottled paper at the front over pulp boards. The codex originated in Cornillon priory.
