General Description

Mentioned by Coussemaker , though he did not see it. Owned in the 19th century by F. Wolf in Vienna. Although since thought lost, it was found again in Vienna in 1955 and was purchased for the Newberry Library by CM Nebehay. Manuscript f. 6v shows the year 1391 and the name Frater G. de Anglia in Pavia; it contains several music theoretical treatises (see literature by Fischer for contents). On f.10r is the only recorded polyphonic piece in black and red mensural Ars subtilior notation, possibly serving as an illustration to the 'Tractatus Magistri Andree Phillipoti nove artis' on f.7v up to 9r. The music is in harp tabulature with notation on four, nine- or ten-line staves.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 4: 14. Jh.; 59 Blätter Pergament, 253 x 180 mm. Moderne Foliierung von f. 1-59. - Einband: 16.

This manuscript, which Coussemaker mentioned, but apparently did not personally see, was owned in the 19th century by F. Wolf in Vienna.
