  • England
Contents 16 pieces from 1 composers
General Description

15 items over two sets of leaves (when arranged in a different order from the present one, form a complete gathering of eight folios): they include mass items, conductus, and one motet (concordant with the Worcester fragments). The style includes parallel voice technique identical with that later called faburden. The most likely provenance is St Stephen's Chapel, Westminster, St George's Chapel Windsor or his household chapel (later called the Chapel Royal).

from Harrison 1978
Physical Description

Some leaves are cropped causing the loss of notes clefs and text.

from Harrison 1978
Notation

full black mensural: uses a punctus divisionis in many places.

from Harrison 1978
Date

Dating is based on the notation and repertory, but also the texts, two of which mention 'Edwardus', who is being prayed for rather than invoked, and can only therefore be Edward III (1327-77). Another text mentions the war between England and France being in progress, suggesting the date of the source to be between c. 1340 and 1377.
