General Description

Front flyleaves bearing a single upper voice of a Credo on their versos, carelessly written. The Amen is incomplete. The host MS is a corpus of 47 folios containing an account of the money accruing from the foundation of birthday feasts for the year 1388. The leaf now bearing music was presumably empty originally; thus the music should probably be dated slightly later than the accounts.

Binding

parchment covered in brown leather

Notation

Ars Nova. Sections in black alternate with sections in white: Patrem - omnia facta sunt (black), Qui propter nos.. .non erit finis (white), Et in spiritum.. .venturi seculi (black), Amen (white). The change in notational colour is not arbitrary, but reflects an alternation between tempus imperfectum cum prolatione perfecta and tempus imperfectum cum prolatione imperfecta

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A paper manuscript dated 1388 and meas. 285 x 205 mm., La 1388 contains 47 folios + 1 front flyleaf in a parchment binding covered in brown leather. The original Roman foliation begins at f. 2 and continues till f. 28 (I-XXVII), after which there is a modern pencil foliation to f. 48 (28-47, since the front flyleaf is not included). The contents of the ms corpus are an account of the money accruing from the foundation of birthday feasts for the year 1388. The music is written on the verso of f. I, as I shall call the front flyleaf, which was presumably empty originally. For this reason the music should probably be dated slightly later than the accounts. It consists of a single upper voice of a Credo in carelessly written Ars Nova notation. Curiously enough, sections in black notation alternate with sections in white as follows: Patrem - omnia facta sunt (black), Qui propter nos.. .non erit finis (white), Et in spiritum.. .venturi seculi (black), Amen (white). The Amen is incomplete, probably lacking the final stave or so. The change in notational colour is not arbitrary, but reflects an alternation between tempus imperfectum cum prolatione perfecta and tempus imperfectum cum prolatione imperfecta. The two pages of music contain 7 and 8 brown five-line staves respectively.
