General Description

A choirbook compiled in the diocese of Girona. Contains 71 pieces, of which 54 are unica, 29 of them by Maillard. Copied by a single scribe who also provided the index, with one addition by a second scribe who may have been Sebastian Fuster (the composer of the piece), maestro de capilla at Girona Cathedral. Probable origin in Girona (Puentes-Blanco, who rejects Rosenstock's suggestion of Barcelona).

Watermark

4 watermarks. Latin cross and letters B&G within an oval, slightly different from Piccard #1022 which is dated to 1589; letter S; grapes (two versions)

Liminary Note

Inscription on f.II_v by Jeroni Romaguera relates to a benefice at Girona Cathedral, dated 13 May 1597; and a 1623 inscription links the ms to the Benedictine monastery of San Pedro de Galligants in Girona (Ros-Fabregas2016)

DIAMM, 2026
Date

Rosenstock (2012) suggests copying may have been begun as early as 1572 when the Victoria works were printed. Inscriptions dated 1597 & 1623 in ms locate it around Girona.

DIAMM, 2026
Foliation

II + 124 ff. Original foliation ignores ff. 1-5, which were apparently added later, and omits f. 96, which may have been lost. Modern foliation II+1-124 including a 61bis but omitting 101.
