General Description

Fragment of an early 15th-c MS with a polyphonic mass. What survives is the cantus and tenor (cantus firmus) of the Credo recycled as lower pastedown. The upper pastedown has disappeared and can now only be seen as offset

Preliminary results of study on this fragment from the REIMAGE project, in collaboration with the Alamire Foundation (Alamire Digital Lab) presented in MedRen 2026. A full study is forthcoming, and images (HR, UV and MSI) will be published in due course on IDEM.

We can now identify the following items in the fragment:

Front board (red from imprint and UV images) - Quant si loing suy de ma joyeuse joye [Ca, T, and Ct] Concordances: CH-Beb 421, F-Pn 6771, and E-MO 823 (Identification by Sara Maria Fantini). - [T]res nobles contes de (…)” [Ca, T, and Ct]. Composition so far unidentified.

Back flyleaf, side already on Fragmentarium (originally the verso) - Beginning of a Credo. A cantus survives from “patrem” to ”erit finis" and a (textless), the tenor from “patrem” to section ”et in unum”. Composition so far unidentified.

Back flyleaf, recently unglued (originally the recto) - A troped Kyrie, with parts written successively per section - Section "(…) amor nexus (…) eleyson" survives in two voices - Section "[A]postolos christi (…) eleyson" survives in three voices
