General Description

Choirbook, containing a series of mass settings, showing signs of wear. Neatly laid-out with careful texting; 'German' layout with Sup-Bas/Alt-Ten on each opening. The book ends with Magnificat settings, the beginning of a series continued in Mus. ms. L 5.

Written by a single scribe, who also copied Mus ms L 5

The codex was gifted to the monastery by Abbot Burkhard Furtenbacher of Lambach (1585-1599), whose coat-of-arms it displays; he was in charge at Kremsmunster 1589-1590, so the gift probably dates from that time.

General Note

Like Augsburg Tonkunst Schletterer 23, this copy of the Requiem has low clefs (a 4th or a 5th lower than printed and later copies) though, unlike TK23, this version includes an ascription to Lassus. Rimek, who recognised the Augsburg version as the 'original' of the Requiem, did not know of this copy.
