General Description

Written space at least 180 mm wide; frame rules and double text guides. Written in England. Used to form strips at each end of [pr. bk.] Gal. G. 4. 29, Marcus Antonius Constantius [pseud., for Stephen Gardiner], Confutatio cavillationem quibus sacrosanctum Eucharistiae sacramentum ab impiis Capernaitis impeti solet (Johannes de Roigny; Paris, 1552). Owned by William Latymer, Dean of Peterborough, 1559-1583, and Prebendary of Westminster, 1560-1583 (d. 1583); possibly from the collection in his house at Westminster (see W. Wheatley, The History of Edward Latymer and his Foundations, 2nd rev. edn. [Beccles, 1953], p. 26). Bequeathed with several others in 1584: 'Gulielmus Latimer nuper unus prebendarius huius Ecclesie hunc librum dono dedit Bibliothecae huius Collega Westm', 1584'. Old shelf-mark 'B. 4. 4'.

RISM Supplement: 1 fol. (fragmentary; unfoliated). Parchment. Now 130 x 205 mm. Written space at least 180 mm wide. Ruling: red five-line staves (18.5 mm) ruled with a rastrum; frame rules and double text guides. Script: gothica textualis sine pedibus, with some semi-quadrata elements. Notation: unstemmed semibreves, without dot of division, used syllabically, and major semibreves. Decoration: major initials in gold, blue and red; text under T in red.
