General Description

A collection of parchment and paper fragments, collectively numbered 558, but also including sub-items numbered 558a-558n, all apparently originating from the binding of a common host volume. Not all contain musical notation, and some remnants of some fragments remain pasted to the surface of others.

Fragments 558c and 558d are related and contain unidentified keyboard music.

Fragments 558e, 558f, 558g, and 558h are related and contain vocal parts of two works: 558h-verso (parchment) preserves a sizable chunk of the top voice of Jean Richafort’s “Quem dicunt homines”, and 558h, 558f, 558g, and 558e preserve a fair amount of the first and third Superius voices of the “Recordare, virgo mater” setting that was published as a Josquin setting (though this attribution is disputed), but is here clearly attributed to Jean Mouton at the top oh 558h recto (Ioannes Muton).

Discovered by Dominique Gatté, 2016.
