General Description

A bifolium (not from the centre of a gathering), mounted with fols, 1v-2 uppermost. Protogothic script. Similar at points to the setting in W1, fols. 191V-192 (No. 313). Followed by monophonic settings of Salve mater salvatoris, Superne matris gaudia, and a further unidentified sequence (fols, 1v-2v). Written in England. Found, together with a bifolium from a 13th century collectar (now PE/NBY/MI 3), in a cavity in the wall of the clock chamber (15th century) of Netherbury Church, Dorset, during repairs in 1964.

RISM Supplement: 2 fols, (fragmentary; mounted with fols, 1v-2 uppermost). Parchment. Now 142 x 275 mm; page originally 140 mm wide. Written space 95-100 mm wide. Ruling: twelve freely ruled red four- and five-line staves, fol. 1 (respectively 6-7 mm, and 9.5 mm); at least eleven, probably twelve, freely-ruled red four-line staves on fols. 1v-2v (6-7 mm), with one five-line stave on fol. 2v. Collation: a bifolium, not from the centre of a gathering. Script: proto-gothic. Notation: Notre-Dame type, with semi-quadratic neume forms. Decoration: Major initial in red flourished in green; capitals in text in red and green.

Written in England. Found, together with a bifolium from a s. xiii collectar (now PE/NBY/MI 3), in a cavity in the wall of the clock chamber (s. xv) of Netherbury Church, Dorset, during repairs in 1964. Both bifolia were cleaned and mounted between sheets of perspex at the British Museum in 1964. Deposited in the Dorset Record Office, Dorchester, 1969. Formerly P 350/MI1.
