General Description

A manuscript describing English nobility, names of places that elect members of Parliament, and English coronation procedures, with music copied at the rear. Consists of two textless motets in score - Josquin, Stabat Mater (with an added 6th voice, a Superius) and Jacquet of Mantua, Aspice Domine (left incomplete). Probably copied in England.

The music is (unusually) laid out to be read with the spine of the book horizontal, and the back of the book at the top, in which position the music is read from the back of the book forwards. (It is possible that the music was copied first, and the book re-used more 'normally' afterwards.)

Date

Material elsewhere in the book points to a date c.1540 for the text; and perhaps 1530s for the music. (Milsom)
