RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A late 14th or early 15th century parchment strip meas. 40 x 213 mm. and containing fragments of a Credo in Ars Nova notation. There is only 1 stave of 5 red lines on each side of the strip, but this is evidently the bottom stave of the page. Fortunately, the piece can be identified as APT 16 bis 40 by Bonbarde or Prunet: the passages of music preserved are T bars 129-145 Et expecto. . .seculi and second ContraT bars 66-751 passus. . .scripturas. The text of the second ContraT varies in underlay from the Harder edition, and the Strasbourg and Padua variant in bar 66 also occurs in the music of Be II.

The Credo fragment is from the Perrinet or 'Bombarde# setting also found in F-Apt, Stras 222 and other sources. The relevant passages in the fragment are mentioned in Polyphonic Music of the 14th Century vol 23b, pages. 229 (third voice down) and 234 (lowest part). Bob Mitchell
